Victor Frankenstein

Victor Frankenstein was a test screening which I was invited to from the producers of the film. A week before the the test screening a lady from the company who organised the test screening came up to us to ask if we would be interested in viewing the film.

What is a test screening?

A film test screening is when the production company who are making the film produce a rough cut of the film in the editing stage and give the target audience or the general public a chance to view the film before it’s release. Then after the film the audience are able to give feedback via a questionnaire answering questions such as how were the characters?, did you know the actors?, how would you rate the ending?, how would you rate the beginning?, was there a clear narrative? and many more question similar to these questions.

Victor Frankenstein is a never-seen before twist on Mary Shellery’s classic 19th century novel. James McAvoy who plays Victor Von Frankenstein and Daniel Radcliffe who plays Igor which the film takes it’s perspective from as we see the young Igor create a bond with Victor and become the first people who witness the man and legend we all know today Frankenstein.

The test screening was better than I expected because I thought that there would be a lot left out of the screening and there would be no CGI because with a type of film like this it requires a lot of CGI for the crane shots showing the environment for example. I really liked the way that there was a lot of suspense and thrill with the film which made me continue to watch and I loved the storyline as it really told a twist from the novel and made it confusing but also interesting at the same time. Unfortunately, as it was a private screening there was a lot of security and they took our phones before going in which made us more engaged in watching the film.

I would recommend this film to other people as it is a classic and modern twist on a old novel, and is imaginative way of telling the story of the birth of Frankenstein. The storyline has been layout out way in terms of getting the idea of what has happened however, the film does miss out bit which made the story jump a bit, the film also had a slow start however became more and more better as it went on and ended very good as it wasn’t expected. Overall, Frankenstein is a good watch and would recommend anyone to watch it if you like thrill and action films.

I would also recommend anyone to go to a test screening as it not just for film lovers anyone could go and watch it even if you don’t like that type of genre as it give you a chance watch a film that’s not finished and see the technical aspect of the film and also give you a chance to see the difference between the edited stage and the full final finish film, also it’s FREE!

  1. I really enjoyed your review as I’ve never been to a test screening before and it gave me a real insight into what to expect. I also thought that your analysis of the film was good and I would be interested in watching it to see how the directors have reinterpreted a classic. You also make a test screening sound really exciting. Thank you for your insight.
